What Is a Wedding Venue Working Vacation? Why Every North Texas Wedding Venue Owner Should Go

How Working Vacations Benefit Our Couples

If you’ve never heard the term Wedding Venue Working Vacation, you’re missing out on one of the best educational experiences available for wedding venue owners.

As the owner of Lakefront Acres Wedding & Event Venue in North Texas, I’ve attended two Working Vacations so far—and I can honestly say I can’t wait for my third.

These trips have made me a better venue owner, a better business owner, and ultimately have helped create a better experience for every couple who chooses to celebrate with us.

My First Working Vacation Was Before We Even Built Our Venue

The first Working Vacation I attended was in Dallas, and here’s the amazing part…

Lakefront Acres didn’t even exist yet.

I was still dreaming, designing, and trying to learn everything I could before breaking ground.

Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, I spent three days touring successful wedding venues, asking questions, taking notes, and learning directly from venue owners who had already experienced the challenges I was about to face.

Looking back now, I truly believe those three days saved us countless mistakes and influenced many of the decisions we made while building Lakefront Acres.

What Is a Wedding Venue Working Vacation?

A Wedding Venue Working Vacation isn’t a vacation in the traditional sense.

It’s three days filled with education, networking, collaboration, and inspiration.

Venue owners and managers come together to:

  • Tour some of the most successful wedding venues in the country
  • Learn proven business strategies directly from experienced venue owners
  • Share ideas and operational systems
  • Discuss marketing, social media, staffing, and guest experiences
  • Build lasting friendships with other venue owners
  • Return home full of ideas to improve their own venues

One of the things I love most is that everyone openly shares what has worked—and even what hasn’t. There is no competition. It’s simply venue owners helping other venue owners become better.

The Amazing Community Behind These Events

One of the biggest reasons these Working Vacations are so successful is the incredible community that surrounds them.

A special thank you goes to Didi Russell, affectionately known throughout the industry as “The Wedding Nerd.”

If you’re a wedding venue owner, you’ve probably heard her name.

Didi has become one of the industry’s biggest champions for independently owned wedding venues. She is incredibly generous with her knowledge, constantly sharing marketing ideas, social media strategies, business tips, and encouragement with venue owners across the country.

In my experience, she genuinely wants to see venues succeed.

She gives away an incredible amount of valuable education completely free, while also offering paid educational opportunities that are absolutely worth investing in. After all, expertise like hers has tremendous value, and the wedding venue industry is better because she’s willing to share it.

If you’ve ever wondered why some venues seem to have social media figured out, chances are Didi has had a hand in teaching or inspiring them.

She has created a community where venue owners don’t feel alone.

The People I’ve Been Blessed to Meet

One of the greatest gifts these Working Vacations have given me isn’t just education—it’s friendships.

I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many incredible venue owners who are passionate about helping couples create unforgettable weddings and equally passionate about helping fellow venue owners succeed.

Some of the amazing people I’ve met include:

Each venue is unique and each owner has their own story.

Each one has taught me something valuable.

Some lessons were about marketing.

Others were about operations.

Some were simply reminders that we all face the same challenges and victories in this industry.

A Reminder of What Truly Matters

One story that has stayed with me is the tragic fire that destroyed Covered Bridge.

It’s every venue owner’s worst nightmare.

Watching fellow venue owners rally around one another during such a devastating time reminded me that this community is much bigger than business.

It’s family.

It’s people who genuinely care for one another and understand the enormous amount of heart, sacrifice, and work that goes into operating a wedding venue.

Why This Benefits Our North Texas Couples

You might wonder why any of this matters if you’re searching for a North Texas wedding venue.

The answer is simple.

Every conference, venue tour, conversation and new friendship.

Every idea we bring home helps us improve the experience for our couples.

Whether it’s smoother wedding timelines, better communication, improved guest flow, new planning resources, enhanced décor ideas, or simply finding better ways to serve our clients, we’re constantly investing in becoming better.

Our couples deserve a venue that never stops learning.

I Can’t Wait for Working Vacation Number Three

I’ve attended two Wedding Venue Working Vacations, and I already know I’ll be signing up for another.

The wedding industry is always evolving, and I never want to stop learning.

If you’re a wedding venue owner, I can’t recommend these experiences enough. You’ll leave with pages of notes, new ideas, lifelong friendships, and renewed excitement for your business.
